Luxury Car Rental in Cape Town for Canadian Visitors
Welcome Canadian Visitors to Veloce
Welcome to Veloce. We hire luxury cars to Canadian visitors arriving in Cape Town and Johannesburg β and increasingly, Canadians are choosing Cape Town as their alternative to the typical Caribbean winter escape. Direct flights via Doha (Qatar Airways from Toronto and Montreal), Frankfurt (Lufthansa), or Dubai (Emirates) make South Africa reachable for the kind of 10-day to 3-week trip that justifies the long journey. Whether you're combining Cape Town with a Kruger safari, doing the Garden Route, or staying in the city for a longer winter escape, our fleet of 120+ vehicles is built for both city and open-road comfort. We accept Canadian licences, the deposit process is straightforward for North American visitors, and we walk you through the one genuine adjustment: South Africa drives on the left.

What You Need to Drive in South Africa as a Canadian Visitor
Your Canadian driving licence is accepted at Veloce β we recommend bringing an International Driving Permit (IDP) as backup, available from CAA for around CA$25. Not strictly required by us, but useful at roadside checks. Minimum age 23 for our standard fleet, 25+ for supercars, no upper age limit. Licence must have been held for at least 2 years. At pickup bring your physical Canadian licence card (provincial, all accepted), your passport, the credit card used for the deposit (in the lead driver's name), and flight or accommodation details. Additional drivers welcome β each presents documents in person. We verify identity via Smile ID and credit-check via Experian. Process is 10-15 minutes. Send documents via WhatsApp ahead of time to speed airport handover.
Left-Side Driving β What Canadian Visitors Need to Know
In South Africa, you drive on the LEFT β opposite to Canada. Steering on the right side, gearstick to your left, indicator on the right of the wheel (windscreen wiper stalk on the left). Most renters adapt within 30 minutes β your hands and feet learn faster than your conscious mind. The first 24 hours feel unfamiliar at intersections and roundabouts, which operate the same way as Canadian roundabouts but from the opposite direction. By day two it stops feeling foreign. Practical tips: start in a residential area not the motorway; avoid driving jet-lagged on the first day; stay especially alert at T-junctions where reflex says "look left" but you should look right. If you'd rather not deal with the adjustment, our chauffeur service is available. Speed limits are 120 km/h (75 mph) on motorways, 100 km/h on national roads, 60 km/h in towns. Google Maps works throughout South Africa.
Most Popular Routes for Canadian Visitors
Canadians often build long-form itineraries given the travel distance. Three patterns we see: Cape Town and Safari (10-14 days): fly into Cape Town, hire a vehicle for city and Cape Peninsula time, then fly to Kruger, Sabi Sand, or Madikwe for safari. We collect the car when you fly to safari. The Garden Route (10-14 days): Cape Town to Hermanus, Mossel Bay, Knysna, Plettenberg, Tsitsikamma, Port Elizabeth β the classic long road trip, often combined with a few extra days in Stellenbosch or Cape Winelands. We collect from Port Elizabeth. The Cape Peninsula Winter Escape (5-10 days): an extended city stay during Canadian winter months (December-March), with day trips through the Cape Peninsula, Chapman's Peak, Cape Point, and the Winelands. Best in a luxury SUV (Range Rover, Cayenne) or convertible (911 Cabriolet, E-Class Cabriolet) since the Cape's December-February weather is consistently 25-30Β°C.
